Following a school-record 19-1 regular season, Chichester earned the No. 1 seed in next week’s District One Class AAA tournament

Chichester seniors Maddie Thornton, left, and Meghan Wimmer embrace after Wimmer escaped a bases-loaded jam to close out a 1-0 shutout of Villa Maria in last year’s District One Class AAA quarterfinal. This year, Wimmer and Thornton — now the team’s starting third baseman — led the Eagles to the No. 1 seed in the tournament as they vie for the program’s first District One title.

Despite its unblemished record, Springfield (19-0) is No. 4 in the District One Class AAAA tournament. With the new power-rankings system, which determined the entire breakdown of seedings, the Cougars finished behind North Penn (3), Perkiomen Valley (2) and Neshaminy (1).

Springfield and the rest of the top nine seeds receive a first-round bye. The Cougars play either No. 13 Pennsbury or No. 20 Wednesday, May 20.
